This course is mandatory for all seafarers serving on board sea-going ships.
To train participants in the principles of shipboard fire prevention, fire-fighting, and use of available fire-fighting equipment carried on board merchant ships to the requirements stipulated in the revised STCW 2010 Convention.
A student successfully completing this course and meeting the required performance standards will be able to
- understand the theory of fire;
- know the concepts of fire prevention and detection;
- know the fire fighting equipment (fixed and portable) available on board to fight fires;
- understand the ships fire fighting organization structure; and
- state the importance of fire fighting drill.
